Find The Perfect Budget Friendly Holiday LBD!

Style Watch: LBD

So, what exactly is a little black dress, also known as an LBD? According to the Oxford Dictionary it defines the dress as a woman’s short or medium-length black dress that is suitable for almost any social engagement.

I must say, there is nothing like having the perfect LBD. Once you have invested in one you really like you’ll probably wear it more often than any other dress in your wardrobe. There are so many perks of an LBD, you can dress it up or down and wear it on so many different occasions!  So, when it comes to spending the dollar, don’t be afraid to go outside of your price range, sometimes it’s worth the penny!

With all that said, even if you have just $50 or less to spend, there are tons of amazing options out there. Fashion retailers like Shein, Boohoo (same dress  , Forever 21, Pretty Little Thing, ASOS, H&M Windsor and Fashion to Figure are great for finding cute, fashion forward, trendy dresses when your funds are low. They may not last forever, but they’re cute and the price is right! I got the dress in the picture above, from Boohoo for less than $20 – click the link for more details – Boohoo.

You can also checkout sites like polyvore.com and shopstyle.com  where they allow you to sort through several different websites at once and organize your findings by size, color, and price. I like these sites because they allow you to save the dresses you like and set up alerts to let you know if and when they go on sale. Which is perfect for the holiday seasons when you’re on a budget, or if you’re looking for a particular dress.

Once you’ve got your dress, it’s definitely a good idea to take it to a tailor. That is what for my dress in the picture below from Boohoo. As you can see it fits me like a glove! I know for some it may be considered a hassle, but trust me, the dress will fit much better and look more expensive after it has been altered and you’ll feel better wearing it! There is nothing like having a custom-made outfit to fit your body.

Last but not least, if you’re wanting to get some real wear out of your new LBD, you must to take proper care of it. Avoid washing it unnecessarily, since this can cause unnecessary fading to the color and wear out the fabric — spot cleaning is usually adequate. Hang it up in a garment bag when you’re not wearing it to protect it from the light and stop it from rubbing up against other clothes in your closet, which could damage the fabric. Also, use those little loops inside your dress when you’re hanging it; otherwise, it’s going to get stretched out.
